Year 6

Year 6

About Year 6

In Year 6, Mr Turner, Miss Gregory and Mrs Towner-Yates enjoy the support of Mrs Campbell, Mrs Burns, Mrs Meecham and Mrs Bell.

Year 6 has some very interesting topics like World War 2, hat making, evolution and carrying out a study of the highest village in Britain: Flash.  We are fortunate to visit Flash, as well as the hat works museum, as part of our curriculum.

Hello, my name is Mr Turner. I teach in Year 6 and am the Year 6 team leader. I am lucky to be supported in class by Mrs Meecham and Mrs Burns. It's a privilege to be here, working alongside the children as they go through their last year at Great Moor Junior School, before continuing their educational journey at high school, and beyond.

There is a lot jam-packed into Year 6: the renowned  trip to 'sunny' Flash; a visit to experience Stockport's hatting history, at the Hatworks Museum. We also manage to fit in several other, optional, residential visits throughout the year. Finally, we top it off with a production, which showcases the children's many and varied talents!

If you have any particular queries or questions, please feel free to contact me - either by email, or by contacting the office for a phone call or face to face meeting.

Welcome to 6G, I am Miss Gregory and this is my first year teaching Year 6 at Great Moor Junior School. I am delighted to be working alongside Mr Turner and Mrs Towner-Yates and I am extremely fortunate to be supported in class by Mrs Campbell and Mrs Burns.

I am most looking forward to helping your child grow in confidence both academically and emotionally, developing their self-belief across all subjects. As I have taught Year 5 previously, I am excited to learn and develop alongside lots of familiar faces.

I am currently RE subject leader. If you have any recommendations for trips, artefacts or visitors in school to develop children’s understanding of the wider world, then please do not hesitate to contact me!

When I am not in school, I enjoy weekends away supporting Stockport County up and down the country.

I hope this year is both fun and engaging for all members of 6G and I am happy to be contacted by parent/carers via email if you have any queries.

Hello, I'm Mrs Towner-Yates and new to the Year 6 and Great Moor Junior team. I'm very much looking forward to getting stuck in with 6TY and making some memorable learning experiences. I've had lots of experience in Year 6 and it's always a priviledge to help and guide our young learners as they enter the transition into high school and their next big adventure.

I love reading and am looking forward to taking Year 6 to strange lands and far off places from the pages of extraordinary books. I'm always developing my collection of unusual texts so if you have any recommendations (or need any) I'd love to hear from you. Other than reading, outside of school, I love exploring and adventuring in the Great British countryside in all weathers.

I hope that 6TY enjoy the rest of the year with me. I can't wait to get started! Please get in touch if you have any question or comments on the children's learning  - I love a chat!
