All About Year 4

In Year 4, we believe in team work and us all working together as one team which includes every one of the year 4 children! Our staff team includes Miss Higson, Miss James, Mr Breckwoldt and Miss Macintyre and we are supported by Mrs Morrey, Mrs Begley, Mrs Holmes and Mrs Ellis. We all work together very hard to ensure that all children make good progress.

During the year, we will study some great and interesting topics such as: Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Sound, Europe, Animal Habitats, Teeth and Eating. We also hope to have some exciting visitors in to school and to take some trips to intriguing places, including an overnight stay.

We will also study a different class book each half term. These include, 'The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe', 'Running on the Roof of the World' and 'The Iron Man'.

Meet your teachers!

Miss Higson

Hello, I'm Miss Higson.

I have been teaching for a while now, about 15 years. This will be my third year at Great Moor Junior School and I love it here!

I'm looking forward to getting started in Year 4 with all of the interesting topics that we study. I love seeing the progress that all the children make over the year. I have high standards and expectations and we always work hard to meet them, whilst making sure we have fun along the way. I am also the deputy head teacher, so on Thursdays and Fridays I will be in school, but out of class. Miss James and I always pass information between us and will both know what is happening in our classroom.

If you ever have any questions, feel free to come and see me or one of the team. We are always available after school and there will always be an adult on the door in the morning that you can talk to.

Miss Higson

Miss James

I am Miss James and this will be my second year teaching at Great Moor Junior School. I have been teaching for almost 8 years and I absolutely love it! I am really looking forward to teaching Year 4 in September and getting to know all of the lovely children. I am also looking forward to working alongside Miss Higson, Mr. Breckwoldt and Miss Macintyre and getting stuck into all of the exciting topics we will be covering in Year 4. I am a busy mum outside of school and love to get outdoors, read books and go on holidays, too. My favourite subjects to teach are English, History and Art. If ever you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Mr. Breckwoldt

Hello, my name is Mr. Breckwoldt.

I am again with Mrs. Begley who is working alongside me as my Teaching Assistant. We have worked together as a great team for the last few years in Year 3 and in Year 4.

It is a great curriculum in Year 4 with such topics as the Ancient Greeks and Romans; learning about electricity in Science and using that to make nightlights in DT; the Alps in Geography; building on skills in computing (learning about repetition in Scratch and Logo); as well as a great set of books to read in English; lots of challenging and fun Maths; and much more besides.

At present, I am one of the Computing coordinators. And I know those who did a lot of work during lockdown gained a lot of Computing skills.

I will be recommencing Code Club during the autumn term. So if you enjoy Scratch you will love it.

I also enjoy reading (fiction and non-fiction) and I am still learning the piano.

Mr. Breckwoldt

Miss Macintyre

Hello, my name is Miss Macintyre!

This is my second year teaching Year 4 at Great Moor Junior School and I am very excited to work alongside Mr Breckwoldt, Miss James and Miss Higson. Our classroom assitants are Mr Longshaw and Mrs Holmes.

I look forward to supporting your children to grow in their ability and confidence throughout the year. Year 4 has lots of interesting topics such as the Ancient Greeks which I am sure the children will love! I love to teach Maths, Geography and History.

Outside of school, I enjoy running, travelling and have recently ventured into skydiving!

I hope the children thoroughly enjoy their time in year 4. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
