Welcome to Class 4BP

My name is Helen Barry and I have been teaching at Great Moor Junior School since September 2008, when I moved up with the Year 2s, after 8 years teaching in the Infant School. My degree is in History and I really enjoy being History co-ordinator at the school.

I began my career at the schools as a parent helper in 1994, I then became a Teaching assistant in 1995 and then completed my PGCE on the Graduate teaching training program in 2000, whilst working in Reception.

I consider myself fortunate  to have been able to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, full of opportunities for hands on, experiential learning .I love the fact that, each year, each Class is on a journey of discovery, developing skills and learning strategies for  life ,which I have the privilege of leading and sharing.

I am now sharing this journey with Mrs Plant, my experienced Job Share partner.

We both believe that working in partnership with parents, gives the children the best chance of success, so our door is always open if you have any concerns that you wish to share.

Mrs Barry

Hello my name is Mrs Plant and I have been at Great Moor Juniors for many years and thoroughly enjoy teaching year 4 children. Before realising a lifelong desire to teach, I previously worked in business. I have experience in all year groups, not only teaching at Great Moor but in several other Stockport primary schools.   I was born in Stepping Hill Hospital and have lived in and around Stockport all my life.

I believe that children learn best when they feel safe and happy in a caring environment and I feel privileged to be part of a great team of professionals at GMJS.  I enjoy helping children to become more independent learners through the variety of topics taught in our year group. Ihave also had experience of teaching most year groups, not only at Great Moor, but in several Stockport primary schools.  I am particularly looking forward to our rivers study trip to Crowden in the Peak District.

I have always been a keen sports person and play competitively for local hockey and tennis clubs.  Besides spending time with my family, I enjoy walking, reading, knitting and gardening.  I like visiting new places and love Italy and France.

My experience in teaching has taught me that children are happy and succeed when we all work together.  I am always available around teaching hours to answer any queries or questions you may have.
